Notes from the editors
What it looks like. Branching LPS coral with trumpet-shaped polyps at the tips of calcified branches — hence "candy cane" and "trumpet coral." Color combinations include green-with-cream-stripes, all green, and rare neon morphs.
In your tank. Peaceful neighbor without sweepers. Growth follows a predictable pattern: existing branches split into two, creating a steadily expanding cluster. One of the most rewarding LPS corals to watch propagate naturally.
Placement and care. Low-to-moderate light, gentle flow. Avoid strong direct current which keeps the polyps retracted. Target feeding small meaty pieces (mysis, brine) accelerates branching. Place on the sandbed or low rockwork.
Sourcing and feeding. Captive-propagated frags widely available ($15–40). One of the easiest LPS corals to keep — a good step up from soft corals and mushrooms when graduating to stony corals.
Care info is a starting point, not a guarantee. Individual specimens, water chemistry, and tankmate dynamics vary. Verify against multiple sources and adjust to what you observe. See our terms & disclaimers.
